Enjoy your favorite pesto in these healthy Recipes Using Pesto. Every summer, I grow basil, mint, cilantro and parsley in my container garden. I love making fresh pesto using these herbs and often add leafy greens such as curly cabbage and Swiss chard.
The traditional pesto is made with basil; however, I love to add leafy green vegetables to pesto. It all started as a way of making my boys eat kale and chard Swiss. However, I soon found that it was also a great way to make a lot of pesto when I didn’t have enough basil.
Dry fruits, garlic and Parmesan-Reggiano are also traditionally used in pesto recipes. However, I replace the nuts that I have by hand, for example, hazelnuts, almonds and nuts, I also use garlic gossip instead of garlic clots when available. For guests without dairy, I leave the cheese out of the pesto and serve the Parmesan cheese on the side.
Summer is coming to an end, so grab as much basil as you can and do a lot of pesto. Pesto can be frozen in small portions, and it is taken to stir in different recipes. Normally I line a baking sheet with plastic wrap, spoonfuls of pesto at the top, and freeze it until it is firm. Once firm, I transfer all frozen portions of pesto to a plastic bag easy to freeze, and label it. It can also be frozen in an ice cube tray.
