…has a week of content. That’s what they say. And I usually had a really good Sunday. Although I must say, I see why it is easier at some point to buy online. But let’s go back for a moment.
On Saturday we had friends to play with cards and watch football, so we were all in bed. I knew the girls would sleep on Sunday, and apparently David, too, so I sneaked out of our room at 6:45 to enjoy a quiet morning. We’ve been experimenting with leaving Finley back on the couch, just on his blanket and only when he was invited. He’s doing it like that, but it’s fun to have his prayer next to me as I go over the week, write to make lists and structure next week.
David got up at 8:00, but we had to open the doors and wake up the kids at 9:00. It is still funny to me how late they can sleep after having to use the rule “you are not allowed to leave your room until 7:00 AM” for years (most with Kaitlyn).
I made avocado toast and toasted pumpkin bread with oranges for breakfast, and cooked the chicken for dinner while talking through the priorities of the day with David. We knew that we wanted to exercise to finish breakfast, put the girls in the lounge to see the children’s church (which they really enjoy but yes, we still want to try new churches and yet it never seems to be a priority), and we headed to a day of walk and leg.
Then we all dressed up and did the unusual walk in Charlotte. With our family photos next weekend I wanted to look for costumes. It’s a process I hate honestly, but I knew I’d hang up if we didn’t reject it.
We went to the Southpark Mall, which was absolutely beaten. David, Hailey, and I wasn’t in our element. The crowds and chaos drain us with energy, but Kaitlyn, well, she was living her best life wanting to try with infinite amounts of clothing and thrive.
I have partially fulfilled my mission. I found a dress that I loved in Antropologie and found the girls’ sweet outfits in J. Crew. I still have to put everything out and see if they’re going to “go together” for the photos. Seriously, I love photos, but I really don’t like this preparation process. I know we’re supposed to coordinate, not agree, but I honestly find everything stressful.
Anyway, we checked the box, then we decided to drive through our old house in the Chantilly neighborhood where we lived when we first got married. The neighborhood has grown so much but our little house doesn’t have, except the trees that have taken the courtyard. I think it’s basically worth a lot now and it’ll be knocked down to build a house that adapts more to what’s becoming the neighborhood. As crazy as things change, but fun walking through the memory lane.
We arrived home later than expected, around 4:30, and I realized many of the computer-based tasks I had planned to get to (organize my Amazon store, work on gift guides, set up the RSS feed) would not be achieved. Instead I made soup while the kids pulled the dog out and popped.
As promised, we all watched Hocus Pocus 2 and ate chicken garrote soup (if you’ve never done this recipe with lemon and dillYou should try it. Kids enjoyed the movie but they say they still like the first best. How can one compete with Thackery Binx?!
I cleaned the kitchen, put coffee for the next day, boiled some eggs, then chained into a Spades game. We teach the kids this card game on Friday and it’s HOOKED. It’s great because it’s a ton of fun, but David agreed to play 500 that ended up taking a long time after a movie. They didn’t get to bed until 9:30, which is about 15 minutes before my bedtime, so this morning when their alarms go off at 7:45, it should be Real fun.
Did I do the right thing about this day? It’s been so long since I just blog about our regular everyday things that I’m not sure how to remember. Is there supposed to be a point or just sharing? I hope sharing is fine.
Now I’m gonna start the coffee machine. I really woke up early this morning (4:30) thanks to a terrible dream. I’m grateful it’s not the norm for me, so I’m going to enjoy the extra quiet time you gave me this morning and I hope the day will be nice to me slightly sleepy. I’ll let you know when I get here tomorrow. It’s fun blog this way again.
I hope you have a big Monday!
